The Nagrik Adhikar Manch was formed as a pressure group. The settlements in which we live were registered as slums in the government documents, where problems of water, roads, sanitation and schools already existed and on that the government decided to remove our settlements. Under which the government came up with a plan to remove our settlements under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission in 2005 and an attempt was made to make people understand that this project is for the welfare of the people of the settlement. After the news of this came to the people of the colony, there was a cloud of despair and worry among the people. After this, we understood the project and tried to explain to the people that this project is not for our welfare but the government is eyeing our land, then people wanted to oppose this project. Then the youth of the colony said that the protest should be done in a constitutional and non-violent manner and for this we will have to form an organization and name it constitutional. Then Nagrik Adhikar Manch was formed as an organization. After this, under the leadership of Nagrik Adhikar Manch, the Jawahar Lal Urban Renewal Mission was continuously opposed in a constitutional manner from 2005 to 2011 and took its point to the Union Urban Development Minister and the Human Rights Commission, as a result of which the administrative staff was asked to talk to the people. Had to be forced, as a result of which in 2012, Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh announced the cancellation of the proposed Jawahar Lal Urban Renewal Project and said that the settlements in Poli Pathar area will not be displaced anywhere. Since then, the organization has been continuously working to disseminate all the legal information before displacement in Jabalpur and advocating for better rehabilitation of all displaced people after displacement. Nagrik Adhikar Manch is continuously working for organization building of all professional unorganized workers, women, youth and students. Along with this, the organization successfully worked for the basic needs of urban poor settlements, construction of schools there, food security of urban poor, Right to Education Act, social security of unorganized workers etc. In 2013, Nagrik Adhikar Manch was established as an organization, which was registered under the Society Act. After registration in 2013, the organization has been continuously working on the issue of urban poverty since then.
